Custom ID Maps

In this lesson we learnt about ID maps, ID maps are textures that covers different elements of your mesh with different colours.

SOLVED: Ddo colour id map not working...driving me nuts!! — polycount

We used the background image and put it into photoshop, we also got the UV snap shot from UV editor and put it into photoshop as well.

In photoshop we added a black solid colour and drag and dropped the UV snapshot into the solid colour. Next we named the layer to UVs and double clicked that layer and went into stroke and changed the position to outlined so we could see the UVs more clear.

Then we added the background image of the shields and made it in line with the UV layout. We would start to the trace the inside of the shield using the pen tool and then colouring them in with a solid colour. We would do it to all of the inside of the shield.

Exporting textures

To export the textures you go on file, then export textures, make sure you select the correct output directory, the correct output template and the correct fill type.
